The Code of Judicial Procedure gives provisions on the Swedish Bar Association, and the position of lawyers in the legal system. The Code gives the Bar Association the power to exert public authority within certain fields, including the right to accept new members of the Bar and to supervise members from a disciplinary point of view.

The Code also establishes the lawyers’ duty to absolute professional secrecy.
